Member One Partners with Local Minor League Baseball Teams to Donate $9,000 to Area Food Banks
ShareMember One, a division of Virginia Credit Union, will donate a total of $9,000 to area food banks through its Strike Out Hunger partnerships with the Salem Red Sox, the Lynchburg Hillcats, and the Pulaski River Turtles.
The Strike Out Hunger initiative is one of many ways Member One and Virginia Credit Union are working to address food insecurity in the communities they serve. Feeding Southwest Virginia will receive a $6,000 donation, and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank will receive a $3,000 donation.
"We're committed to building stronger, more vibrant communities through our engagement initiatives and community partnerships," said Member One Market President Tim Rowe. "The Strike Out Hunger partnership allows us to combine our support for local community partners with our dedication to addressing food insecurity in our communities. We're proud to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors."
The Strike Out Hunger initiative aligns with the credit union’s community engagement focus, with food security serving as one of four priority areas for the organization's efforts, alongside financial education, children's health and wellness, and community well-being. This targeted approach enables the credit union to achieve greater impact in areas that benefit both its members and communities.
"We are incredibly thankful for the support of Virginia Credit Union and its Member One division," said Feeding Southwest Virginia CEO Pamela Irvine. "The need for nourishing food in Southwest Virginia continues to grow, and their generous support will help our Food Bank distribute 12,000 meals to children, seniors, and families who face hunger in our service region. It’s because of strong partners like Virginia Credit Union that we can strike out hunger together.”
Virginia Credit Union and its Member One division have a proud history of supporting regional food banks, community kitchens, urban farms, and nutrition programs with financial support and volunteer assistance. Last year, the credit union donated more than $57,000 to organizations working to address food insecurity.
