ROANOKE, VA (February 7, 2020) — Member One Federal Credit Union recently donated a vehicle from its corporate fleet to Mill Mountain Theatre (MMT). The vehicle will provide safe, reliable transportation for the visiting professionals who temporarily reside in Roanoke while performing with the Theatre. “Actors, directors, and other theatre professionals who come to Roanoke to perform at Mill Mountain Theatre will use this car to get around town, buy groceries, visit gyms, and get to know our community,” said Ginger Poole, MMT’s Producing Artistic Director. “Most travel to Roanoke on planes and trains so they rely on MMT for transportation beyond downtown Roanoke.”

In 2019, MMT housed 106 visiting theatre artists in its downtown housing facility. They reported spending $1,114 each, on average, in Roanoke stores and restaurants during six weeks of rehearsals and performances. “That’s a significant impact on the local economy and points out the benefit of having a car for actors to get around,” Poole said. “Member One Federal Credit Union, thus, has given a gift to local merchants as well as to Mill Mountain Theatre.”

Frank Carter, President/CEO of Member One, echoes the importance of MMT and its visiting artists to the local economy. “We have a long history of supporting Mill Mountain Theatre, and we believe fully in their commitment to enriching our community through the performing arts,” stated Carter. “We are so pleased that this vehicle will have a second life among the various theatre professionals staying in downtown Roanoke, doing business with our merchants, and providing top-notch entertainment to our community.”
