Apply for a Scholarship

The deadline for 2024 scholarship applications is January 12, 2024.

With the rising cost of higher education, everyone can use a little help—that's why we're proud to offer scholarships for local students.* You are welcome to apply if you’re a high school senior and Member One member who will be attending a Virginia college or university.

Richard L. “Dick” Williams Memorial Scholarship

Richard L. “Dick” Williams was Member One’s first President/CEO and served for over 35 years. In addition to his outstanding work with Member One in our community, he had a passion for sports, especially at the high school level.

Member One established this $5,000 scholarship to assist a qualified high school senior in preparing to attend a four-year university or college in Virginia.

QUALIFICATIONS*
  • A current Member One member for at least 6 months in good standing
  • A high school senior
  • An exceptional history of academic achievement and participation in scholastic activities
  • Accepted for admission to a Virginia college or university as a four-year student
  • Participated in an athletic varsity sport (as recognized by the Virginia High School League) for at least two semesters in high school

Member One employees and children or relatives of Member One employees are not eligible.

Henry Lee Memorial Scholarship

The Henry Lee Memorial scholarship is named after a past recipient of a Member One scholarship. Henry Lee was one of the 32 students and faculty tragically killed at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.

Member One established this $1,500 scholarship to assist a qualified high school senior in preparing to attend a four-year university or college in Virginia.

QUALIFICATIONS*
  • A current Member One member for at least 6 months in good standing
  • A high school senior
  • An exceptional history of academic achievement and participation in scholastic activities
  • Accepted for admission to a Virginia college or university as a four-year student

Member One employees and children or relatives of Member One employees are not eligible.

How to Apply, Requirements, and Deadline

Scholarship applications are administered by Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia.

To apply, visit cfwesternva.org and complete an application online.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Recipients will be selected in April and will receive notification by email. Recipients should plan to attend the Member One Annual Membership Meeting typically held in May.

*Must be a current member for at least 6 months in good standing (as defined in the Consumer Member Account Agreement or Business Member Account Agreement provided to you at the time you became a member). Member One has selected an independent Scholarship Committee to review applications and select two recipients. The decision of the Committee is final and shall not be overturned or challenged by Member One or anyone else. Member One reserves the right to modify, cancel, or discontinue this scholarship at any time.
