2017 College Scholarships

Apply for a $1500 or $5000 Member One Scholarship

Member One is proud to offer two college scholarships to local high school students who will be attending a Virginia college or university.

ABOUT THE RICHARD L. “DICK” WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Richard (“Dick”) Williams was Member One’s first President/CEO and served for over 35 years. In addition to his outstanding work for Member One in our community, he had a passion for sports, especially at the high school level. Member One honors Dick’s dedication to education, competitive sports and philanthropy with this scholarship. Member One established this $5,000 scholarship to assist a qualified high school senior as he/she prepares to attend a four year university or college in Virginia.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a current Member One member in good standing.
  • Must have an exceptional history of academic achievement and participation in scholastic activities.
  • Must be a high school senior.
  • Must have obtained acceptance for admission to a Virginia college or university as a four year student.
  • Participation in a varsity sport (as recognized by the Virginia High School League) for at least two semesters in high school.

Member One employees and children or relatives of Member One employees are not eligible.

 

REQUIRED INFORMATION

All applications must be returned to Member One* no later than the closing date shown on the application form. Please attach the following with your application:

  • Two essays in response to the provided topics.
  • An official transcript of high school records.
  • A copy of the acceptance letter from the college or university.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a teacher, counselor, coach or other administrative authority illustrating why the candidate qualifies for this scholarship.

Scholarship finalists may be called for a personal interview. Winners will be selected by May 1, 2017 and notified by mail that they won the scholarship.

Winners should plan to attend the annual meeting of the membership on May 10, 2017.

All applications and required information must be received by April 15, 2017.

ABOUT THE HENRY LEE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Henry Lee Memorial scholarship is named after a past recipient of a Member One scholarship. Henry Lee was one of the 32 students and faculty tragically killed at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.

Member One established this $1,500 scholarship to assist a qualified high school senior as he/she prepares to attend a four year university or college in Virginia.

*Member One reserves the right to modify, cancel or discontinue this scholarship at any time. Member One has selected an independent Scholarship Committee (“Committee”) to review applications and select a recipient. The decision of the Committee is final and shall not be overturned or challenged by Member One or anyone else.
